Interview with Inventor

Interview with Prof. Alexey Tyrkov, Dean of the Chemical Department of ASU, Chief of the Green Chemistry Research & Educational Center, Supervisor of the research project “Application of 1-getaryl-2-nitro-2-(3-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole-5-yl) Ethanes as Psychotropic Stuff”.

– What’s the aim of your invention?

– We developed “green” techniques to obtain new substance of organic nature. Our project aims to extend the range of compounds with biological activity – psychotropic and sedative effect.

– What’s the difference between your invention and existing similar products?

– There are many psychotropic and sedative agents; they are actually extracted from natural materials. To reinforce effect of those agents, synthetic compounds are definitely necessary. The substances we developed have a prolonged sedative effect; they’re low-toxic, which makes it possible to introduce them into pharmaceutical practice.

– What would attract your potential investors to your project?

– We emphasized the “green”, environmentally friendly manufacturing technique. Many medicinal preparations, which are applied now, are based on application of environmentally-friendly technologies. Pharmacy is the leader to eject harmful substance into water, air, and soil.

We already developed a technique to obtain compounds and ran our initial laboratory (preclinical) trials. To attract investors, we have to conduct additional (clinical) research, which relates mainly to side effects of these compounds. Then we have to research their pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.
