Summer School in Economics at Lake Baikal

Dr. Elena Fyodorova, an Associate Professor of the Chair of World Economy & Management of Astrakhan State University, has taken part in the Summer School Culture, Institutions & Diversity that has taken place at the shores of Lake Baikal in Russia.

Dr. Fyodorova has won a grant to participate in the Summer School, which was organized by the Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions of the New Economic School (Moscow, Russia). Together with dozens of specialists in the field of Economics, Sociology, and Culture Studies, she has taken part in seminars delivered by renowned scientists – Professor Shlomo Weber (New Economic School, Russia), Professors Steven N. Durlauf and Theodore P. Gerber (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA), and Professor Jean-Philippe Platteau (Université de Namur, Belgium).

The School speakers have concerned modern researches in the field of evolution of culture and social institutions, concepts and econometric researches of social interaction, and aspects of social economic development. All the classes were delivered in English; they were of intensive character. Discussion of researches undertaken by the participants themselves was a special item on the School agenda; thanks to it, Dr. Fyodorova could get an expert feedback related to her research activities. According to Dr. Fyodorova, she got both a positive feedback and constructive criticism concerning her researches of interaction between models by means of the economic theory.

This is not the first time that Dr. Fyodorova has taken part in such events; she has recently returned from Limerick (Ireland), where she took part in the European Social Survey. This is one of the largest sociological resources that track changes in preferences and behavioral patterns of European people. The agenda of the Conference included outcomes of the recent round of polls and general European tendencies in the field of policy, the social sphere, and family-related issues.
