The first year of realization of the international project Democracy and Governance in the European Union has been finished at Astrakhan State University. The project is a part of the program Jean Monnet Modules.

The program aims to enhance one’s knowledge of the European integration processes by teaching, researching, and debating in themes related to the history, policy, economy, and legislation of the European Union. It was launched in 1989 and named after the well-known French political economist and diplomat, one of the founding fathers of the European Union. Nowadays its activities involve 78 countries; its educational network spans over 800 universities.

The European Commission selected Astrakhan State University to deliver this program and signed an agreement with us last December. Prof. Nikolay Grishin, a Full Professor of our Chair of Political Science & International Relations, supervises this project at ASU. To coordinate realization of this project, the Center of Political European Research was established at our University.

The program “Jean Monnet Modules” includes studies of activities that the institutions of the present-day EU perform. Our students covering the master program “Political Science” were given the course of lectures “Democracy and Governance in the European Union”; after that, they passed an examination in this course successfully. Our team responsible for this project (Prof. Nikolay Grishin, Prof. Lyudmila Baeva, Dr. Alexander Grigoryev) is conducting its research related to this program. During this academic year, our students prepared several scientific reports to take part in conferences and presents their findings related to activities of the European Union.
