Council Members of International Federation of Translators Visit ASU

On April 05-07, 2018, Astrakhan hosted the annual meeting of the Council of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs/International Federation of Translators (FIT). This is the biggest international federation of associations of translators, interpreters and terminologists. During its visit to Astrakhan, the FIT delegation visited Astrakhan State University.

Dr. Konstantin Markelov, Acting Rector of ASU, greeted our distinguished guests. ASU was also represented by Dr. Nikolay Khurchak, our Vice Rector for International Relations, and Prof. Olga Egorova, Director of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting & Translation that operates at our University.

The meeting took place at the center of conference interpreting of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting & Translation. This is Russia’s only educational institution that trains qualified conference interpreters and technical translators who speak Farsi, German, Chinese, Italian, etc. (all in all, 15 languages are taught).

The Union of Translators of Russia, whose Astrakhan regional office operates at our University, backed the idea to hold the annual FIT Council in Astrakhan. In 2014, Prof. Olga Egorova from ASU became the only Russian to be elected to the FIT Council at the FIT 20th World Congress in Berlin. In 2017, she was elected to serve another three-year term in Brisbane, Australia.

At the end of the meeting, our Acting Rector showed the distinguished guests the main labs and research centers of ASU.
