Join the World Engineering Competitions

1. What are the World Engineering Competitions (WEC)?

The World Engineering Competitions (WEC) are a project implemented by the Academy of New Technologies and Astrakhan State University and aimed at popularizing engineering disciplines among schoolchildren and students.

2. Who is the project aimed at?

The World Engineering Competitions (WEC) project is intended for schoolchildren from 10 years old, students of colleges and universities, as well as teachers and parents who want to make an acquaintance with modern technology in design and modeling, creation and promotion of real projects that are of great importance for many sectors of a country's economy.

3. How do the participants benefit from the participation in the project?

During the competitions, participants undergo intensive trainings in the Fusion 360 software product by Autodesk company. The training is organized in the format of team work on the project which allows participants to develop not only professional skills in using the software product, but also skills related to teamwork, distribution of roles and responsibility. In addition, each participant is given a certificate from Autodesk company, and is awarded with success points that are accumulated by participants from competition to competition. Subsequently, success points are counted as a kind of payment for international certification test on the knowledge of the software product, and also become additional points to the Unified State Exam (EGE) during the participant’s admission to the project partner university.

4. How does an educational organization benefit from participation in the project?

Participation in the project as a regional operator or reference site contributes to the positioning of the educational organization as a training centre for engineering programs, the involvement of students in the university for subsequent enrollment, as well as the accelerated immersion of participants in the study of computer-aided design systems, which makes them competitive in the labor market.

5. Who develops tasks for the competitions?

Educational organizations participating in the project use real cases developed on their basis as tasks for the tournaments, thus they have an opportunity to implement the projects together with schoolchildren and students: for example, the 3D design of working mechanisms at designathon and their subsequent assembly at makerthon.

6. Who checks the work of the participants?

The works are checked remotely by Autodesk experts, i.e. the time resource of your teachers is not involved in this process.

7. How much does it cost to participate in the project?

Participation in the project is free for both the reference sites and the participants. Autodesk software products (full versions) are also free for educational organizations. The tournaments are held on the basis of your educational organizations, i.e. there is no need to take children outside the region and even outside your educational organization.

8. What are the requirements for the sites?

The sites should be equipped according to the infrastructure list (see the file “Infrastructure List for WEC Designathon (for operators)”. The number of computers depends on the number of participants + 1 computer for the teacher.

9. What do you need to join the project?

  • Express your desire to participate in any way convenient for you: by phone or e-mail (see contacts below).
  • Sign a contract with the regional operator.
  • Train a teacher as a trainer (training is conducted by the Academy of new technologies for free) and train them to use the Fusion 360 software product (the software product is easy for self-study. If necessary, we are ready to hold seminars.)
  • Hold an event (possibly in test mode).

Please feel free to contact us; we are ready to help you with issues related to your participation in this event.
