Academic Laboratory of Modeling & Situational Analysis of Logistic Processes
At its current stage, sustainable development of the Russian economy requires optimization of its logistic and transport infrastructure, which could reduce costs at the stages of production manufacturing, storage, transportation, distribution, and exploitation.
Being aware of importance of these tasks, the Department of World Economy & Management of Astrakhan State University established its Research & Educational Center of Innovative Transport Technologies. The Center includes four laboratories:
- Laboratory of Automated Storage Systems;
- Laboratory of Automatic Identification Systems;
- Laboratory of Logistic Processes Modeling & Situational Analysis;
- Laboratory of Transport Logistics.
The main tasks of the Center are to train students and specialists, develop educational programs for them by applying modern hardware and software.
The main field of our research activities is principles of development of corporate logistic systems, as well as strategies of organization and operation of those systems.
The Center is equipped with modern automated warehouse hardware and software. In particular, our Laboratory of Automated Storage Systems has a Vertimag elevator storage system, an automatic stacking crane by the Technopribor JSC, a EuroSystems conveyor system, a LeadWMS warehouse administration system, and Motorola data collection terminals. Our computer classrooms have PTV VISSIM and PTV VISSUM software, 1C:WMS and 1C:TMS warehouse and transport administration systems, and an AnyLogic imitation modeling system.
Now our labs are involved in training future bachelors of Economics (profiles “International Shipping Operations” and “International Logistic Systems”), as well as future masters in Transportation & Logistic Systems.
Operation of our labs is a necessary condition to sustain high-quality training of future specialists in Logistics; their staff also conducts researches whose aim is to enhance logistic processes. Findings of those research activities may be applied at all the stages of the lifecycle of a product – from its manufacturing to its delivery to its customers; they are applicable in many fields – from science-consuming industries to heavy industry.
During their studies, our students learn modern technologies of warehouse storage and freight processing, their goals and practical application; they also obtain practical skills of applying modern hardware and software. Thanks to a real opportunity to get both theoretical and hands-on skills, our students get a profound knowledge of how logistics is arranged at a modern enterprise and warehouse.
